WEEK 23
IT'S NOT THE MOVE, IT'S A GOOF!?
Back in 1994 I was cast as the live-action dance reference for ‘Goofy’ in Disney’s classic, “A Goofy Movie”. I’m not the voice of Goofy, but for the dancing, gestures, walks and strolls Goofy does, I was the reference for the animation. To celebrate the 30th Anniversary, “Not Just a Goof”, a documentary on the making of the original movie was just released on Disney Plus.

An iconic dance in the film we created was called “The Perfect Cast”, based on Goofy’s movements when he went fishing. The film is a classic now, but at the time we had no idea how well it might do. We were just happy to collaborate on a new project and I was having a blast literally acting as goofy as possible. My family likes to say having me play Goofy was ‘perfect casting’!
A Goofy Movie isn’t Shakespeare, but discoveries in the process opened up insights for my own movement. It was impactful translating additional levels of freedom I discovered while in the Goofy character over into how I operated in life. Allowing me to see new perspectives on certain roadblocks I had been carrying.

As you gain new freedoms or break throughs in parts of your life, take that insight into other areas. Break through the walls of compartmentalization and see the ability to choose a new perspective as you enter new arenas!
The Goofy role definitely played a part in me being less self conscious. I gained a greater ability to enjoy and laugh at the goofy-ness that is a part of my design.
Many thanks to choreographer and friend Anthony Thomas, who played “Powerline”, for bringing me on the production. It’s cool to see posts continue to this day with people around the world re-enacting the routines and movements we did back then. Normally it’s not much of a compliment to be called goofy, but in this case, I’ll take it!
